Mr Aubert de VILLAINE (our photo above), manager of the Domaine de la ROMANEE CONTI was under the knife of a blackmailer who wrote to ask a ransom for he shouldn't destroy the vines of the most famous soil of the world.

One million Euros were asked, and the criminal started to be in action when he entered the plot and destroyed 2 vines using poison.

With the gravity of the facts, Aubert de VILLAINE asked for the help of the police, and, together, they decided to trap the blackmailer.

Fainting to agree, and finding a place to give the money, the criminal has been arrested by the police.

The man was recently liberated from the jail, where he learnt many things about the wine, and especially from the domain, and knew many technical words as well as a knowledge of the domain itself.

Unfortunately for him, he calculated very badly his reconversion, and went back to the jail.

A fire which origin has been situated in a neighbour house close to Chateau LA CABANNE contaminated and affected the crop of the vintage 2008 that was about to be bottled !
The strength of the fire made the roof fall and the damages due to smokes and heat have nearly destroyed the whole crop of the vintage 2008.
Big problem for Jean-Pierre ESTAGER who is wondering how he could deliver what has been sold as futures even though the insurance will pay.
But one should bet that many people should be proposed vintage 2009 instead, and that should not be a bad solution due to the fantastic vintage it is.

Reading SUNDAY TIMES (28th December) the so famous CHATEAU LATOUR owned by François PINAULT, shouls be sold.
After the extreme valorization of this chateau during the preceeding decenny, the French financier would have asked LAZARD Bank to find someone to buy it...
Bought a little more than 100 millions of Euros in 1993, CHATEAU LATOUR would be sold for approximatively the double according to persisting rumours. Something worth watching however, that perfectly illustrates the feeling that the Bordeaux Chateaux have reached a kind of top, at least in terms of prices.

MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 2006...The label is always synonymous of quite a little event in the world of wine. With that vintage where MOUTON did a fantastic job, it is even outlined.
The English painter Lucian FREUD, great artist of contemporean art, was in charge of realizing the label.
For that occasion, he left away his usual inspiration made of nude people, to give a more joyful picture that harmonize better with the idea of the wine. A double event in other words !
